Four months

That's how old the little mister is today :) We celebrated with a trip to the pediatrician for a well-baby checkup. Everything is good. Finn weighs 10 lbs. 15 oz. and is 22+ inches long (I can't remember the exact fraction). He's in the 25th percentile for weight and the 10th percentile for length (this is on the DS growth chart). What I don't understand is that the doc said that at two months he was 20.* inches long and was in the 25th percentile, and now he's only in the 10th percentile. Yet, he grew well over an inch over the last two months, so I'm not sure how much more he would have had to grow to have stayed in the 25th percentile. Whatever, I'm really not concerned about his length (the kid is NOT going to be tall - none of our kids are going to be tall - I've come to terms with that, thank you very much, Michael). Anyway, I really think that baby lengths are subjective - you can have two different people measure the same baby on the same day and come up with completely different lengths. I know at least one of my kids supposedly shrunk from one checkup to the next :/

The doc was very impressed with Finn's alertness, activeness, coordination, etc. (perhaps I need to lay off the worrying a bit?) When he was listening to Finn's heart with the stethoscope, Finn kept trying to grab it, and the doc was laughing at his "persistence," which he said shows both a high level of coordination and cognizance in Finn.

He mentioned that around 6 months we will need to have Finn's vision and hearing checked, as children with DS often have impaired hearing and/or vision (although he passed his initial newborn hearing screening).

Since we are foregoing vaccinations, no shots today. And I have to tell you, Finn is the only one of my kids who has not been sick. He's had some minor congestion here and there, and he did have that fever one evening a couple months back, but that's it. All of my other kids have already been sick with colds 2 and 3 times since school started 2 months ago. I can't help but wonder about the connection between vaccinations and compromised immune systems. I know this is a hot topic with strong feelings on both sides, but all I can say is that I am very at peace with our decision not to vaccinate Finn for the time being.

And here he is at 4 months old:

He really does smile quite a bit, but I rarely seem to be able to capture his smiles with the camera. He was actually overdue for a nap when I took these today, and he was a pretty good sport, considering.

There is something about that last photo that says "just you wait and see, Mama, just you wait and see...". Adorable.

We don't vaccinate. I can't believe your sweet little boy is 4 months old.....he is just so adorable, and from his photographs, he is quite the alert little boy!!!! I'm glad you are relaxing a little bit. It is going to be an amazing journey and your Finn is going to lead you in so many adventures.

Glad the appointment went well and your doctor seems like a great doctor!!!

Looks like he is doing well. I wouldn't fret too much about the growth chart - I'm not sure what that means anyway. We always went more by whether our kids were feeding good and gaining weight. Just my 2 cents on vaccinations but they come in to play when they start hanging out with other kids. I realize that there are studies out there that show links between vaccines and other bad bugs, but what they didn't show the public was the study that refuted all those studies mainly because there study was flawed from the beginning by not having adequate sample sizes. I respect the decision of others to not vaccinate but I do believe that people need to be given the whole story so that they can make an informed decision.

The Dr said: "shows both a high level of coordination and cognizance in Finn". Oh yes, fantastic happy 4 month birthday news. Nevertheless, the love stays the same no matter the level. But one can't help believe that the love and educational stimulation and warmth from your home and its inhabitants will keep him ahead of his own base chart just as it's done for the other cuties.

Sounds like a great check up. We also do not vaccinate and I am amazed at how much healthier my kids seem compared to the general population. Even my kids that "hang out with other kids".

Adorable pics. Love that inquisitive look in the last shot. My Tess is 3 months old and it was pure luck on the few occasions I actually caught a smile on camera.

Hi there, I'm a lurker that has followed your story from the July 08 bb. My dd was born a day after Finn, and I honestly had my laptop in the hospital, checking in for updates on you, something about your story just spoke to me.
I just wanted to say that he is absolutely beautiful- the 4 month pictures are gorgeous. You have a very, very handsome little boy, as if you didn't already know that. =)
