Who Knew?

So I was thumbing through my latest issue of People magazine last night and they have their "Gift Guide" which is several pages of gift suggestions for the people in your life (suckers!). They include something like this whenever a holiday rolls around, and usually I don't pay them much attention (I'm much more interested in reading about Britney Spears's latest meltdown and who is sleeping with who in Hollywood). But something caught my eye in the current issue: on the page of gift suggestions for "the kid in your life" they included a toy specifically for a special needs child. I thought this was really cool, that they would include something like that along with all the mainstream toys (or are they just trying to sucker people like me in by appealing to our tender emotions? I don't know . . .).

Anyhow, the toy descri[tion included a web address so I looked it up: Fat Brain Toys , and there is an entire toy category dedicated to special needs! Here's the toy that is featured in People: Wobble Deck. There are actually a lot of cool toys it seems, all geared towards promoting motor skills, communication, sensory perception, etc. I had no idea that there were actually toys on the market geared specifically to special needs children . . . but I guess it would make sense that there would be. I googled "toys for special needs" and a bunch of websites came up, but Fat Brain Toys appealed to me the most.

Anyway, just thought I'd share - just in time for the holiday rush!

People Magazine, huh? Very cool. Discovery Toys are also great. (A lot of them are used by our therapist). Michelle at Big Blueberry Eyes is a consultant. ;)
