Jewel by Bret Lott - I may have actually read this, like, a lifetime ago. Not sure, but maybe. Since it now has new meaning for me, I'm ordering it from Amazon to read (again?). It's fiction, but apparently based on the true story of the author's grandmother's experience with having a child with Ds.
Judith Scott - have you heard of her? I had not until I came across her name and a brief account of her life in Choosing Naia. Wow.

I haven't heard of Jewel, but I did read Choosing Naia. Have you read The Memory Keepers Daughter? It is a very good book, couldn't put it down! Another good one is Light from Lucas, not DS related, but just putting things into perspective with have a child with special needs. Also, have you read Gifts? Very good!
Erin, I just recently finished Gifts. I also read The Memory Keeper's Daughter - my book club did that book when I was pregnant with Finn (and I didn't know I was carrying a child with DS). Irony.
Thank you Lisa for the book suggestions. I am definately going to get Jewel. I also am amazed by Judith's story. Great suggestions.
I've been meaning to read Jewel too.
And thanks for the reminder about Judith Scott...I have heard of her and kept meaning to look her up. Can't wait to read her sister's book and see that film. I just did a research paper on artists with disabilities...there are some really wonderful artists out there.
I loved all of them- haven't read Jewel since long before my daughter was born. Choosing Naia was an interesting process to observe. I loved The Memory Keeper's Daughter. Expecting Adam is also a good one by Martha Beck.
Wait...don't order Jewel. I have it and will send it to ya!
I read Jewel a couple months ago. It's good, but keep in mind the ERA when reading it. Also...yes! Judith Scott! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!
