Finn's Room

I finished Finn's room today. There really wasn't much to do except take the wood letters off the wall that spelled out "Lilah", patch and repaint holes in the walls, and hang some things up to make it a little more "Finn's." Here's the finished product:

Yes, that's a stuffed Barney on the toy chest. I'm not a fan, but my dad got it for Kevin when Kevin was a babe, and I can't part with it.

Let me tell you about this crib. It's 12+ years old and has slept every one of my babies, plus a cousin. It's beat up and has teeth marks on the rails from every one of the kids who has slept in it (well, except Finn). It's a huge monstrosity of a crib and probably weighs a couple hundred pounds. It has to be disassembled to be moved to a different room. It is so full of memories that there's a part of me that never wants to get rid of it. In fact, after having it for so long and having all of my kids sleep in it at one time or another, I can hardly imagine parting with it one day. I still remember, like it was yesterday, having it delivered to our house when I was pregnant with Kevin so long ago. Nothing made it seem more real that I was actually going to have a baby - a real, living, breathing baby! - than having that crib plunked down in my living room. I remember standing there gazing at it and just crying.

Anyway, turns out Finn likes the crib. He's been sleeping better since we moved him to his own room than he has for the last 3+ months in our room. He isn't sleeping through the night - he wakes up about twice a night; I go and sit with him in the rocking chair and nurse him back down. But that's a far cry from the constant, relentless up and down all night long he's been doing for the last few months. Maybe the Zantac is helping too - it's hard to say since starting the Zantac coincided so closely with moving him to his own room. He even happily naps in the crib, which has been the most surprising thing of all since I was convinced that this kid couldn't nap unless he was swaddled and swinging.

What an adorable room. You have a beautiful home. I understand how you feel about the crib. Kenneth is sleeping in Brian's crib. I can't believe my 6' 2" 18 year old was ever small enough to fit in it! There's no reason to part with the crib. With all the kids you have, you're bound to be a grandmother some day and it can be used the next generation of your family. I think a crib is one of the best things to hand down from generation to generation.

Adorable room. Love the windows. They let in so much light.

Our old crib slept four of my babies before the rail broke. :o( The manufacturer had long gone out of business so there was no fixing it. I was really sad about it when I realized that all my babies had slept in it. Poor Tess has her own crib, with no memories attached.

Finn looks like he's enjoying the extra space.

Such a pretty nursery! I love the windows, the coset and the rug. It looks like such a nice room to sit in with your baby.

All the rooms in your house are so spacious! Jealous. :-) And I love all the natural light. Is Finn's room on the front of the house?

What a beautiful room! I love all the light. Kira's third to use our crib, my niece was first. It's nowhere near is beautiful as yours, though.

Finn looks very comfortable in his own diggs.
