Pedi Appt.

Finn had an appointment this morning with our regular pediatrician to follow up on his ear/sinus infection. The doc said, after digging some wax out of his ears, that it looks like the infection is gone but he still has fluid in his ears, so we need to schedule another appt. with the ENT.

I talked to the doc about Finn's sleeping and eating issues as well, and he gave us a Rx for Zantac. He said it should be pretty easy to determine if he has reflux: if his symptoms improve with the Zantac, then it's reflux. If not, then probably not.

I still think his ears must be a factor in his poor sleep too. The doctor said the fluid in his ears shouldn't cause him any discomfort if there's no infection, but I'm not so sure I buy this. I wonder too if he's got something going on with his adenoids . . .?? Have I ever mentioned how he snorts? All the time. I'll have to record it and post it here. He's been making this snorting sound for months and months. For a long time I thought he just did it because it was a sound he discovered he could make and so he did it . . . just to do it. But now I am wondering if it's really because of some anatomical thing he's got going on. So I will definitely bring that up to the ENT next time we see him.

Anyway, I'm off to go get his prescription filled!

hoping and praying the Zantac does the trick and you are able to get some much needed sleep!

Hope the Zantac helps. I had an ear infection a few years ago and I felt so completely off balance. I think having constant fluid in your ears would be very frustrating! Let's see what the ENT says. You can ask him to examine the adenoids while under for tube surgery if he goes that route. Sean and Aidan both had to have thier T & A removed due to cronic sinus issues and sleep apnea. ithin a couple of months after surgery they both finally slept long stretches.

Of course, I've never heard of T & A surgery under the age of 2, so it may be awhile before you look at that option. Not to scare you, but Sean didn't sttn until age 3.

Lisa,
I have not commented on your blog before but have been following. I have a son with a 14 chromosome deletion and found you through a friend.
Anyway, I wanted to comment on the fluid in the ear, snorting, sleep issues. My son had all of these problems and when he was 11 months had tubes placed because he failed his hearing test twice due to all the fluid. We noticed an immediate difference that night in how he slept and his snoring/snorting has improves dramatically. I was reading your post and felt like you were talking about my son.
Thanks for sharing your story with everyone!
