Easy peasy! Everything went smoothly, and right on schedule.
Let me just say, first, that 3:30 is an UNGODLY hour to be up. Finn and I crept out of the house while everyone else was still asleep (okay, I had to wake Michael up to ask him how to open the trunk of his car . . .), and we got to the surgery center at 5:00 a.m. as instructed. Finn was first on the surgery schedule, and they took us right back to pre-op where we hung out for about an hour and the nurse came and asked questions, filled out forms, etc. Then they took him back at 6:00 a.m., right on schdule (and I didn't cry!), I went out to the lobby to wait, and they had me back in the recovery room with him at 6:17 a.m., I kid you not - that's how quick the procedure was.
He woke up shortly after, pretty crabby, I nursed him and we sat there for a short while, and then we were on our way. I swear, if I hadn't had to stop at the store on the way home for cotton for his ears, I would have been home in time to take the kids to school.
As we were leaving, the nurse said gaily, "See you for your next set!" Pfft. Okay, I know that chances are he'll have to go through this more than once, but that irritated me.
Also, just for the record, I am getting tired of hearing professional people, like doctors, nurses, therapists, etc., continually refer to it as "Down's." Blah. I know, a small thing in the grand scheme, but geez. I can understand lay-people not knowing the correct terminology, but the professionals who are dealing with Down syndrome on a pretty regular basis? Come on. I bring it up because the pre-op nurse who was taking down his information said to me, "So, aside from the Down's, there's nothing wrong with him?" "Ummm, yeah . . . and they tell me he's retarded," I wanted to say.
Anyhoo, here's the big boy before -

I love his little hospital smock.
And the terminology thing irks me too. It's like they're not ever trying.
So glad it went well! I hope the tubes help a TON!
Glad it went so well!
He is so freaking cute! and he looks like he perked up quite well after. and I make sure I use proper terminology all the time, ESPECIALLY when talking to parents, because um hi. it's their kid! and their child is so much more than just a disability.
He is such a cutie pie!
On a side note, I just got an email from our local NDSS affiliate, and they have a new Executive Director. Their new email subject line says "News from Downs Syndrome Association of Central Ohio." I almost passed out.
Glad it went smoothly. It sucks to get up that early, but it always pays to be the first appointment of the day.
And I know, I know, about the "Down's". Drives me crazy.
What an adorable little patient he makes!!! So happy it went well. Would love to "hear" if he "hears" differently. We could tell a difference immediately with Joaquin. He started to startle at every noise in the house. It was amazing!
Isn't it amazing how far technology has come. Finn looks fantastic!
What an absolutely ADORABLE, PRECIOUS baby you have!!!
He is so cute, it put a big smile on my face. Glad things went well and that you are already home. I too get bugged by the Down's talk with professionals. I just read your comment about the email from NDSS, wow, unbelievable.
Aww, how adorable! It's amazing at what they can, and so fast! I hope they work as well for you as they did for us. It certainly didn't seem to keep him down long!
glad he's doing well! We were at the Children's Hospital today, and I noticed that on the sign for specialty clinics, it said Down's Syndrome - on the sign for the actual DS clinic! I almost told someone about it, but had enough to worry about with Lauren's heart appt. When we were waiting for her echo, I noticed a brochure for the DS clinic that said Down syndrome clinic. You'd think someone would notice, but I guess not. My mom still says Downs, and I correct her every time.
Glad everything went smoothly. Tubes were amazing for Kayla. And I had a nurse once comment while taking Kayla's info, "so, was she born with Down syndrome?"
so happy to hear everything went so well. He is just so cute! :)
OMG!!! He is so cute, even in the hospital. I hope he is happy with his tubes.
So glad everything went well! I've been without a computer (grumble, bitch, moan, complain) and I've been in Lisa withdrawals! Can't wait to catch up this Friday!
Oh so glad to hear it was easy peasy because Reid is having tubes put in on Friday. The nurse yesterday made it sound like we would be there for hours and hours... so glad Finn is doing well!
