Sometimes - pretty often, in fact, I find Finn doing something that just amazes me. Like this:

It sure looks to me like he gets it, don't you think? And then I feel almost guilty for being so surprised. I really try so hard to keep my hopes for him high, and my expectations reasonable. Maybe on some level, I set the bar for him just a tad too low.

Anyway, go Finn!

Yep, he gets it! You know, I really think that he was ready to do this (among many other things like playing piano!) but other tasks he is just not ready for..but he will be! :)

He definately gets it! I love that he has a pretty long attention span with it too...my boys would have thrown it across the room after a couple of spins at that age!

Have you ever seen the documentary "Praying with Lior" - about a boy with Down syndrome getting ready for his Bar Mitzvah? There's a line spoken by Lior's father that I've thought of many times since I watched it. He is talking about Lior and says "he may be retarded - but he's not stupid." It struck me at first because I'm so used to taking offense to that word being spoken. But, the more I've thought about it, the more it made sense to me. Some degree of mental retardation comes with the diagnosis, but I can already see that, like Finn, my son Brennan is NOT stupid. I can't even count how many times I've told Brennan how smart he is - and I mean it!

Oh yeah, he gets it. I LOVE Sharon's comment from Praying with Lior. I felt the same thing about the comment from the father when I first heard it. Our kids are quite bright... they may just take a little longer learning certain things, but NEVER underestimate them. That's what I've already experienced.

He's so awesome. Totally, absolutely gets it. No doubt.

I struggle with appropriate expectations all the time. We'll get there.

That is so cute. I love how he stops, looks at you (the camera) and then starts up again. Set the bar HIGH!
