Visit from Regional Center this morning

A girl by the name of Kimberly came over to evaluate Finn this morning. Funny, I was sort of nervous about it for the last few days, and when she was here I kept having to remind myself that neither Finn nor we were being "tested." She was very nice, and was here for about 45 minutes, and most of that time was spent going over forms and having her explain services that are offered and how the whole process works. As far as her evaluation of Finn, at this age she was really only interested in his ability to track an object with his eyes (he was clearly working on a poop when she was doing this, which was pretty funny), and how much he moved his arms and legs around when laid down. She assessed him as "age appropriate," so I guess that's good. I told Sue that I couldn't imagine him being assessed as anything less than "age appropriate" since he's only a newborn, but she pointed out that he indeed could have been assessed below age appropriate based on muscle tone, tracking ability, etc. So, that's where we are now. From here, she'll submit all the paperwork to her supervisor to get him into the system, and they'll contact us next week with recommendations for services - physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy - none of which will likely be needed at this time, but down the road it most likely will.

Michael and I were talking last night, and he said something about how easy it is to be lulled into just seeing Finn as a normal baby right now . . . because for all intents and purposes, that's just what he is - for now. But it's never far from my mind that as time goes on, the DS will manifest itself in more and more obvious ways. I still can't think about it or talk about it without crying.

On a happier note, here are a couple of recent pics of Finn:
