Remember how Finn's testes were undescended? Well, they still haven't come down, and he'll be 6 months old this week. He has another appointment with children's urology tomorrow morning, and I'm feeling quite a bit of anxiety over it. I'm pretty sure we will be talking about surgery.
My poor baby. It just gives me a sick feeling inside thinking about it. From what I understand, it would be an outpatient surgery, but it would still require him to be put under general anesthesia and cut open. And what about the risks? I'm scared.
But leaving his testes stuck up in his abdoment isn't a reasonable option because that carries its own risks - like strangulation, and cancer.
And the truth is, I don't have the warm fuzzies over this urology practice. Their office dicked around and dicked around for weeks on end just to get Finn's ultrasound scheduled. Then we scheduled a follow-up appt. with the urologist we initially saw in early September (who, at that time, was new to the staff of this particular practice - which happens to be the ONLY pediatric urology practice in our county). The follow-up appt. was set for late November, and about a week before, I got a call from their office saying that the doctor we saw was leaving the practice (WTF?) and we had to reschedule Finn's appt. for freaking January! Now we have to see a doctor we've never seen before and who apparently is the only doctor left in this practice (and did I mention that this is the ONLY pediatric urology practice in our county??). I'm just not feeling the love here. And I'm not sure what to do if we don't feel good about this guy; I guess we would have to fight our insurance co. to allow us to go out of network and see a pedi-uro in L.A. county or something.
**Deep breath**
Anyway, keep a good thought for Finn tomorrow morning, would you?

you guys will be in my thoughts Lisa. You'll do great Finn...:)
I hate when local area docs aren't who we like. Our pedi is two counties north of us b/c the locals are just whacks haha.
I will certainly be thinking of you guys!! Please kup.
Definite thought and prayers for you guys tomorrow. I hope it goes well!
I'm wondering if it's the same one that we were referred to a while back. My oldest has urinary reflux, and at the time we lived in Temecula and her referral was in San Diego. When I called the office, they didn't have anything available until July, and I called in February! Needless to say, we couldn't make the appointment and the next available wasn't until September. Not my favorite place!
I hope that all goes well tomorrow and that the new doc puts your mind at ease.
My son had a similar surgery at about a similar age. It went well but I was a ball of nerves. I hope that you can find an alternate doctor. I always follow my mothers intuition. It hasn't steered me wrong yet. You are in my thoughts now and always.
I will absolutely keep Finn in my thoughts. I, too, know the frustration of finding specialists you're happy with (and do we ever travel to get there!). I hope that if you decide to go elsewhere that you get minimal pushback from the insurance company.
You'll both be in my thoughts. Good luck Finn :)
It sucks when you can't find a dr you trust. I know insurance varies from state to state, but didn't realize they restricted you to your county. I feel lucky now because Goldie's regular ped. is the only dr she sees in our county.
Huge thoughts coming your way. I hope all goes well. Please let us know!
Would they have to do surgery so soon? Tucker had undescended testicles and they were not overly concerned until he was over 1. Of course in a busy doc's office we could not get in for his 15mo check up (no 1yr at this office) until he was 18mo. We got the referral to a pediatric urologist (Thank heavens for having a major children's hospital in our city). Anyhow, the pediatric urologist was able to milk them down, with some major pinching and a scream from my baby. :( He called them, "retractable" but said they should cause no problems. I hope you get similar results with Finn's appt, I was very worried about surgery too.
