"Y'all - don't miss it. Don't get so caught up in what your sweet baby is doing or not doing. Don't obsess about this step or the next step or the one after that or what is going to happen twenty years down the line. Because one day you'll look at baby pictures and think about how adorable that baby was and how all you can remember is therapy and you can't even remember what her hair smelled like. So, ENJOY your baby. It doesn't matter when they walk or crawl or talk. It matters that they are here and that you love them and that they know it. Just don't miss it."
Finn, that is. He's like all smiles and giggles at everything lately. H even laughs at nothing at all. Sometimes I'll spy him in his crib and it's like he's laughing at his own private joke. And it's really cute and sweet. I'm not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I have to admit that it concerns me just a wee little bit because damn if I don't want him to live up to that stereotype people have of Ds. Maybe it's just a phase?
Hmmm could it be both? It is probably partially a phase, as he is about the right age to be tickled pink by most everything, but yeah, maybe it is a little bit of the blessing built into the 21st chromosome.
Hey, Lisa. Jasper laughs out loud a lot at nothing these days, too. Maybe he's just happy and feeling better. Who wouldn't giggle about that??? Miss you and looking forward to coming out of the "moving muck" soon.
Maybe he is just finally feeling better - after so many ear infections etc maybe is own joke is that he feels GREAT! Thats something to smile about. And dont worry about the "Ds kids are always happy" A woman I worked with a while back had Ds and for the most part she was happy and pleasant but she could hold her own - she would let you know when she was mad and if she was mad at you it could last a while - she knew how to hold a grudge.
Lisa, maybe it's the age as I have noticed Sam doing the same thing lately. He is hilarious!! From all the Ds kids I meet they are usually pretty happy but very stubborn and can be stinkers, if Sam is like that then he will just be exactly like his Mom. :-) I hate the stereotype as well.
you are TOOOOOOOOO funny--at least I think so because I remember thinking the exact same thing back when G was always peaches and light. If it makes you feel any better...at 2 1/2 she is now definitively NOT always peaches and light! hahahaah
On July 7, 2008 our sixth child, Finnian, was born at home into loving hands. Shortly after he was born, we learned that he has Down syndrome. This is the ongoing story of how our family is being transformed by this little boy.
Hi! I'm Lisa, a 40-something Wonder Mom to six kiddos: Kevin (14), Joey (9), twins, Annabelle and Daisy (6), Lilah (4) and Finnian (3). Oh, and my husband is the multi-talented Michael. He tries to keep me in check, but I just keep on writing.
