Finnian's Journey

Today I got a gift in the mail. Well, actually, Finn got a gift. It's from Heather of The Seal Bark. See, Heather emailed me a while back asking for my address. She said she was making something for Finn's first birthday. I never expected anything like this. I opened the package and just cried.

She took the entire first year of my blog and made it into a hardcover book through Blurb. It's absolutely gorgeous.

I am so touched, I am pretty speechless.

And the funny thing? I've had this sort of . . . dream, I guess, of one day putting together Finnian's Journey into some sort of manuscript and finding a publisher. This is the first glimpse of what that possibility might look like.

What a keepsake. I will treasure it forever. Thank you, Heather . . . I am so grateful.

Lisa, That is truly beautiful. I am guessing Heather has been as moved by your writings as I have. What a wonderful friend.

I had been blogging for about a year when I found your blog. I am still not sure how I came across it. But at that point I had chosen to not blog about Down syndrome. I wanted people to look at my family and not think we were defined or limited by the Down syndrome factor but just a regular family going about our daily activities. Then I found your blog and Finn was just a newborn and I was able to relate to all that you were feeling and going through. I decided I needed to blog more about Morgan and Down syndrome because it does affect our family and my perspective--in a good way. I have loved each of your posts and felt they needed to be documented somewhere other than just on the web. I have also learned so much from all the commenters on your blog and wish I would have had room to add all of the comments in your book too. :) I think your blog is a wonderful site for new moms, a place to help them not feel so alone in the new journey of Down syndrome. Thanks for sharing your story with all of us!
